Federal safety regulators have announced a major recall of SharkNinja Ninja Foodi pressure cookers following reports of over 100 burn injuries, including over 50 cases of second and third-degree burns to consumers’ faces and bodies. The recall affects about 1.85 million units sold across the United States, making it one of the most significant kitchen appliance safety actions in recent years.
Dangerous Defect Leads to Severe Burns
The recalled Ninja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers have a critical safety defect that lets the pressure-cooking lid be opened while the unit is still pressurized and in use. When this occurs, scalding hot food contents violently escape from the pressurized chamber, causing severe burn injuries to unsuspecting consumers.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), SharkNinja has received 106 reports of burn injuries directly related to this defect. Over 50 of these incidents involved second or third-degree burns to victims’ faces and bodies—injuries severe enough to require extensive medical treatment and potentially cause permanent scarring or disfigurement.
The severity and frequency of these injuries have prompted 26 lawsuits against SharkNinja, highlighting the significant physical and financial impact on affected consumers and their families.
Recalled Models
The recall encompasses all Ninja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers, which feature both pressure cooking and air frying capabilities. The affected units are black with a 6.5-quart capacity and bear the “Ninja” brand name prominently displayed on the front.
Specific model numbers in the recall are:
- OP300, OP301, OP301A, OP302
- OP302BRN, OP302HCN, OP302HAQ, OP302HW, OP302HB
- OP305, OP305CO, OP350CO
The model number appears on a label affixed to the side of each cooker. Consumers should note that additional codes following the model number are not part of the model designation. For example, a unit labeled “OP301 I07” is a model OP301 unit subject to this recall.
The recall also includes any OP300 series replacement pressure cooker lids purchased separately as additional parts.
Widespread Sales
These dangerous pressure cookers were sold nationwide through major retailers, including Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club, Amazon, and Target stores. They were also available online through ninjakitchen.com and the retailers’ websites. The units sold for approximately $200 each.
The extensive sales period from January 2019 to March 2025 means that millions of these defective pressure cookers entered American homes over six years. Many consumers may have been using these products regularly, unknowingly exposing themselves and their families to serious burn risks.
Corporate Response
SharkNinja Operating LLC, based in Needham, Massachusetts, is cooperating with federal regulators on the recall. The company has acknowledged receiving reports that consumers have opened the pressure-cooking lids during use, resulting in burn injuries from the hot contents.
“The safety of our customers is a top priority for SharkNinja,” the company stated. However, this assertion raises questions, given the extended period during which the defective products remained on the market despite mounting reports of injuries.
The devices were made in China and imported by SharkNinja Operating LLC. The CPSC has assigned recall number 25-247 to this action, announced on May 1, 2025.
Immediate Safety Actions Required
Consumers who own these pressure cookers should immediately stop using the pressure-cooking function and contact SharkNinja for a free replacement lid. According to the company, while waiting for the replacement, you can safely use the air frying and other functions that do not involve the pressure-cooking lid.
To take part in the recall, consumers should:
- Immediately discontinue pressure-cooking functions
- Remove and discard the existing pressure-cooking lid
- Contact SharkNinja at 888-370-1733 (9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday)

Preventable Pressure Cooker Injuries
The documented injury pattern suggests these burns were entirely preventable with proper product design and adequate safety testing. Pressure cookers rely on multiple safety mechanisms to prevent premature opening, and the failure of these systems in the OP300 series represents a significant design flaw.
That over 50 consumers suffered second or third-degree burns, the most severe category of burn injuries shows the serious nature of this defect. Such injuries often require skin grafts and extensive rehabilitation and can result in permanent scarring and disability.
Compensation for Injured Consumers
Consumers who have suffered burns or other injuries from these defective pressure cookers may be entitled to significant compensation for their medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and permanent disabilities. Product liability law holds manufacturers responsible when design defects cause consumer injuries.
Injured consumers should preserve all evidence related to their incident, including:
- The pressure cooker unit and lid
- Medical records documenting burn injuries
- Photographs of injuries and the incident scene
- Receipts or proof of purchase
- Any correspondence with SharkNinja
Given the complex nature of product liability claims and the significant corporate resources involved, injured consumers should consult with experienced product liability attorneys who can evaluate their cases and protect their rights. Time limits apply to product liability claims, making prompt legal consultation essential.
The mounting number of injury lawsuits against SharkNinja, with 26 cases filed to date, suggests that many injured consumers are pursuing legal remedies. An experienced product defect attorney can help determine whether additional compensation beyond the company’s recall remedy may be available.
